When we see humans we immediately classify them as either ‘female’ or ‘male’. When we see animals we recognise them as only ‘animals’ or ‘giraffes’. In my current practice I am aiming to create a moment in which our perception becomes blurred. I do not aim to portray discrimination or equality. I am creating a harmonised image which is indistinguishable and discourages our natural temptation to define objects as separate forms. All my paintings are derived from real creatures that are now living/dying/dead/eating/starving/ate/breeding/bred. I like to imagine and recompose them ambiguously within these new circumstances. |
